A decade of peer-reviewed
scholarship
Our tools are grounded in published academic work. Here are some of the papers that form the foundation of our analysis engine.
Impact Deal Terms
Field-defining empirical work cataloging impact deal terms, highlighting the role of participatory governance and noting the absence of impact-linked compensation.
Read PaperSide Letters
Documenting the costly and inefficient aspects of side letter terms with an emphasis on confidentiality, and suggesting a path forward with a standardized LPA language menu.
Read PaperExit and ESOPs
Examining how exit differs with impact investments, evidenced by findings that many funds use employee stock ownership plans as a deal term with portfolio companies.
Read PaperStakeholder Consideration
Exploring laws that expand directors' ability to consider other stakeholders — finding that while some led to litigation, they haven't deterred institutions with high fiduciary duty.
Read PaperCommon questions
Transparency is core to what we do. Here are the questions we hear most.
I'd love to help, but I don't think I can share contracts with you.
This is the most common concern we hear — and we completely understand the instinct to be cautious. Sharing a contract for research-only purposes, subject to our privacy policy, is not an ethical or contractual violation of any provision. Think of us as confidentiality-bound consultants, without the price tag. You can review our privacy policy and data security practices at any time.
What if my contract is still in negotiation?
When you upload a contract, you'll be asked whether it's in negotiation or finalized. If it's still being negotiated, we'll reach back out and ask you to upload the final version when it's ready. Feedback on a live negotiation is most useful to the parties involved, but as researchers, the executed deal matters most. We appreciate your honesty on this one.
Do you keep my data?
We retain anonymized contract data for research purposes. Your account information is kept subject to our terms of use for as long as your account exists, and we never share it. If you'd like to part ways, deleting your account is straightforward from the account settings page.
If you're not charging, how is this funded?
We're researchers who built this platform to support our academic work. Sponsorship grants from our institutions, past and present, have helped fund the project. We're always exploring grants and partnerships to cover ongoing costs — but we never share or sell your data.
I have more questions that aren't answered here.
We'd love to hear from you. The best way to reach us is through the contact form, or you can email us directly at info@impactk.ai. No question is too small.
